# Legal data

> What the law of a property's jurisdiction asks a listing to show, as data: legal.classification, legal.registration_number and legal.identifiers.

<Warning>
  **Preview: nothing is served yet.** This describes the Distribution API contract (version `1.0.0`).
</Warning>

What the law asks of a listing is declared as data on every property, under `legal`, per country and, where the law is regional, per region or municipality. Which countries you publish is your decision: filter on the location's `address.country`.

```json theme={null}
"legal": {
  "classification": {
    "certificate_number": "…",
    "category": "pensiune_agroturistica",
    "rating_kind": "flowers",
    "rating": 3,
    "valid_until": "2028-05-31",
    "country": "RO"
  },
  "registration_number": null,
  "identifiers": [
    { "scheme": "ro.classification", "value": "…", "valid_until": "2028-05-31", "issued_by": "…" }
  ]
}
```

## By country

| Property in | `classification` | `registration_number` |
| - | - | - |
| Romania | Always present. A property is published only with a valid classification certificate, and is withdrawn (`property.withdrawn`) when the certificate expires. | The registration number under Regulation (EU) 2024/1028 once the national registry exists, otherwise `null`. |
| Italy | `null` | The CIN (Codice Identificativo Nazionale). A property is published only with it. |
| Elsewhere | `null`, unless a jurisdiction's rule fills it. | The national registration number under Regulation (EU) 2024/1028 once the national registry exists, otherwise `null`. |

`classification` carries the certificate's number, the establishment category (an open list, such as `hotel` or `pensiune_agroturistica`), the kind of rating (`stars` or `flowers`), the rating from 1 to 5, the last day it is valid and the country.

## `legal.identifiers`

`identifiers` lists every legal identifier the listing carries, at most one per scheme, as `{scheme, value, valid_until, issued_by}`; it is empty where the jurisdiction asks for none. The certificate in `classification` is also listed here as `ro.classification`, and a `registration_number` is always also listed here.

* `scheme` is lowercase `<jurisdiction>.<name>`: the jurisdiction is the ISO 3166-1 alpha-2 code of the country that defines the scheme, or `eu` for a European Union scheme. A regional scheme carries its country's prefix and names its region in `issued_by`.
* A scheme name is never renamed or reused; a scheme whose format changes becomes a new name.
* `value` is the identifier exactly as the issuing authority wrote it.
* `valid_until` is the last day it is valid, in the property's time zone; absent or `null` when it does not expire.
* `issued_by` is the issuing authority, as text.

The schemes known in version 1:

| Scheme | Identifier |
| - | - |
| `ro.classification` | The number of a Romanian tourism classification certificate. |
| `it.cin` | The Italian Codice Identificativo Nazionale. |
| `eu.str_registration` | A registration number under Regulation (EU) 2024/1028, applicable from 20 May 2026 wherever a member state runs a registration procedure. |
| `es.ri` | A Spanish regional tourism register number. |

<Note>
  **Ignore a scheme you do not know.** Schemes are added without a new version of the API.
